Melania Trump was honored in her home country of Slovenia with a life-size wooden statue in the city of Sevnica this week, but reviews are mixed. Some claimed it looks like a scarecrow, while others think it resembles Smurfette.
The statue shows her in the powder blue suit by Ralph Lauren Collection she wore at her husband’s inauguration, posing as she waves her hand. The sculpture was erected next to the Sava River in the village of Rozno, around 5 miles (8 km) from Melania’s hometown of Sevnica.
This artwork was commissioned by US artist Brade Downey and created by artist Ales Zupevc. Locals complained about the statue, not due to the first lady’s affiliation with Donald Trump or Republican party, but rather because they say the wooden sculpture does not look like Melania at all. “It doesn’t look anything like Melania,” one local told the journalists. “It’s a Smurfette. It’s a disgrace.”
