Japanese Take Their Halloween To The Next Level With “Every-Day Situation” Costumes

Turns out that there’s a subculture in Japan called “mundane Halloween”. The idea behind it is just as it sounds: people dress up in a costume that tells a boring story and involves plain and regular clothes. The whole thing was started in 2014 by a small group of adults at Daily Portal Z who “kind of wanted to participate in the festivities of Halloween, but were too embarrassed to go all out in witch or zombie costumes”.
